Sightline

Support

Help with Sightline, the viewer for UniFi Protect cameras.

Email dev@n8er.app. Say which device and system version you are using, and which UniFi console and gateway the site has.

Getting started

Sites from your UI account

  1. At unifi.ui.com, open Settings › API Keys and create a key.
  2. In Sightline, open Sites, paste the key and choose Find My Sites.
  3. Tick the consoles you want and choose Add. Read the Before Adding sheet, which lists what will be added to each site’s gateway.
  4. Open a site. The first time takes a few seconds while the connection is set up.

A console on your own network

Under Console on This Network, enter the console’s address (for example 192.168.1.1) and sign in with your UI account or a local account. Consoles use their own certificate, so Sightline shows its fingerprint and asks before trusting it.

Common questions

What does Sightline change on my gateway?

For each site you add that has a UniFi gateway: a WireGuard remote-access VPN server named “Sightline”, on UDP port 51820 or the next free one, with its own address range, and one client for each device you use Sightline on. It checks these each time you open the site and puts them back if they are missing.

How do I undo that?

Remove the site in Sightline, which removes your device from the VPN and the VPN itself once no device uses it. If you deleted the app or revoked the key first, delete the “Sightline” VPN in UniFi Network under Settings › VPN.

Why does a site show still pictures instead of video?

Sightline could not set up its connection there, usually because the site has no UniFi gateway or the API key is not allowed to use UniFi Network. Tap Why? on the banner for the reason. Stills, recordings as stills, events and clip downloads still work through Ubiquiti’s cloud.

The picture says it is running behind

Full-quality video from some cameras arrives late on some connections. Sightline shows how far behind it is and drops one quality level when it stays behind. You can choose a quality yourself from the camera’s menu.

How long does a sign-in last?

A direct console sign-in is kept for up to 30 days, as long as the console accepts it. The Sites screen shows the date.

Which cameras can I control?

PTZ cameras get a joystick, lens zoom and saved views. Camera settings cover the name, recording mode, detections, status light and microphone. Cameras from other makers have fewer settings.

Is Sightline made by Ubiquiti?

No. It is an independent app that works with UniFi Protect.
